Renewable Energy

Renewable energy comes from natural and renewable resources. The concept behind being renewable means that such a resource is capable of being naturally replenished by the earth. A few examples of different resources like this include rain, wind, geothermal heat, sunlight, and the tides.

As far as statistics go, renewable energy made up about 18% of the global energy consumption in 2006. 13% of this came from traditional biomass. Wood-burning is an example of such traditional biomass. The second largest option was hydroelectricity.

Renewable energy can be harnessed for both large-scale and small-scale production. Most related projects and production comes at the large-scale variety. However, they are also used for smaller, off-grid applications. Examples of such applications include in within rural and remote areas.
