Energy Conservation

Energy conservation, in a nutshell, involves the reduction of energy that is used. There are many methods of accomplishing this. A major focus is energy efficiency.

With energy efficient practices, energy conservation is achieved with no sacrifice of service. For instant, compact fluorescent light bulbs hold this focus. This means that they provide just as much lighting as standard incandescent options, if not more. At the same time, they require only 25% the amount of energy. They also last approximately ten times longer.

Another facet of energy conservation is the reduced consumption of energy. Many people were raised with the recommendation to turn off lights and electronics when they are not being used. Another useful tip is to completely unplug certain appliances. It takes a certain amount of standby power for a lamp or coffee maker to be ready to start up once a switch is hit. This continual drain is often referred to as vampire draw because of its unnecessary effects.
